The process at Clay Fire Studio.

A pottery wheel is used to create each individual piece. The pots are turned off and finished at the leather-hard stage and left to dry prior to loading into the kiln for bisque firing.

After bisque firing to 1000°C for approx. 9 hours, the pieces are removed from the kiln and glazed. When dry, they are reloaded into the kiln and fired to 1280°C for approx. 10 hours.

The kiln, a large gas-fired, four burner, down-draught model, enables oxidation or reduction firing cycles, resulting in many variations in both clay bodies and glaze finishes.

While commercial clay bodies are used, all glazes are formulated in the studio.
